KHAIRABAD AWADH – A HERITAGE QASBA IN SITAPUR

Khairabad Awadh as it name suggests is an important historical and heritage Qasba in Sitapur District Uttar Pradesh. It lies only 8 km away from Sitapur on National Highway 24 at the distance of 80 km from Lucknow. It has its own Municipal Board. One of the pioneers of the freedom struggle of 1857, Allama Fazl-e-Haq and a number of world famous poets and academicians from his progeny are associated to Khairabad, which is also called Khairabad Awadh. It is also known for Islamic monuments here.

History

              The seat of learning during Mughal Period and still producing prominent personalities, Khairabad Awadh was found by Maharaja Chita Pasi as per some accounts in the early 11th Century. Muslims came here in huge number getting grants and jagirs during the periods of Babar and Akbar.

Wikipedia notes: “It was a big trading center, where Kashmiri Shawls, Jewels of Birmingham and Elephants of Assam were traded. The East India Company arranged to export the handloom clothes manufactured in Khairabad and Dariyabagh. Biswan was famous for earthen potteries. In 1886, artists from Biswan got a bronze medal in empire exhibition held in London for artistic display on earthen pots. The district was also famous for engraved door panels.”

During the 1857 first war of independence, Allama Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi gave the Islamic Ruling against the British to expel them from the country but as we known the attempts to free India from imperial powers did not succeed and the  freedom fighters were given the most inhumane and brutal punishments. He was sent to Cellular Jail in Andaman Island where he passed away.

       Khairabad Awadh got its name and fame due to its prominent personalities in various disciplines and fields.  Farook Ahmad Khan and Saad Farooqui and others in shooting and Riyaz Khairabadi, Muztar Khairabadi, Waseem Khairabadi, Aseem Khairabadi, Jan Nisar Akhtar, Sabit Khairabadi, Jumbish Khairabadi, Dr. Aziz Khairabadi, Sajid Khairabadi, Goher Khairabadi, Syed Zia Alvi, Shakir Khairbadi, Asad Aziz and others had rendered distinguished services in literature.  

Monuments

              Imambara Khairabad, Mosque situated in Imambara and Makka Zamidar Imambara are some of the monuments, which are witness it its rich culture and heritage.  There are sufficient educational and other facilities as well in this worthy to see Qasba namely Khairabad Awadh.
