Mirza Ghalib College is a deficit grant Post Graduate Minority College affiliated to Magadh University, Bodhgaya. It was established in 1969 in the centenary year of (a great Urdu & Persia Poet) Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib with aim to provide values based quality education to the students making them not only educated but also a responsible citizen. Since the inception of the institution, the college has been imparting education upto Graduation level in the faculties of science, Art and Commerce and now many subjects upgraded upto P.G. level teaching like Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Psychology, English, Hindi Urdu, Pol. Science, History & Commerce. It has the credit of being the first minority college of undivided Bihar to start Post Graduate teaching which was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Bihar Sri Lalu Prasad Yadav on 5th October 1994. In addition to conventional courses, vocational courses in computer Application, Business Management and Bio-Technology Honours (BCA, BBM & Bio-Tech) are also being run successfully at Degree level for last 13 years. The college is centrally located in the Gaya city adjacent to white House compound enjoying proper transport facilities. It has a well developed Infrastructure in terms of buildings, library, laboratories, offices and other required facilities and faculties for imparting quality education to the students. Its five storied main building along with four storied building on the other side provides optimum accommodation for teaching work.
There are separate arrangements for the education of girl students upto graduation level in the morning shift. The institution has covered a long eventful journey since its inception and it is always striving for innovation in education and for expanding new horizons in the field of research and education. It has acquired commendable name for discipline and trouble free atmosphere for the education, especially of girl students, few new provisional courses are likely to be launched in near future which include MBA, MCA, M.Sc. (Bio-Technology), P.G. Diploma (Bio-Technology/Bio-Informatics), B.Sc. (Micro Biology) and Diploma in Safety Management.
The Governing Body of the college is very keen about upgrading its infrastructure to promote excellence in teaching. The students of both traditional and vocational courses have been performing well in the university examination and some of them have topped the list of successful candidates.
